WASHINGTON — President Trump on Wednesday denounced the attempted bomb attacks on several prominent Democratic Party figures, which he called “despicable acts,” as law enforcement officials across the country scrambled to identify the person or people behind the packages.
“As we speak, packages are being inspected,” Mr. Trump said. “We will spare no resources or expense in this effort.”
He also called on the nation to come together. “In these times we have to unify, we have to come together,” he said.
The first lady, Melania Trump, was the first to speak about the attempted bombings ahead of her husband at a planned event at the White House on the opioid crisis.
“We cannot tolerate those cowardly attacks, and I strongly condemn all who choose violence,” she said.
Before Mr. Trump addressed the attempted bomb attacks, he thanked his wife and Vice President Mike Pence’s wife for their efforts in combating the opioid epidemic.
